Doesn’t everyone have an entourage???

IMG_0604Wherever I go on the center, I’m like the Pied Piper, with a selection of little people dropping whatever they’re up to when I appear and happily following me wherever I’m off to.  On this occasion, I was going to meet someone at the car park and we were heading to the store.  So my littlies could only follow me to just outside the carpark where I said “tchau-tchau” and go play.  When we drove out, this delightful sight awaited me!

Just hanging about, waiting to say goodbye to Mana Laura as she drove away!

Who needs fancy toys?

As clever Afonso-Bonso demonstrates so well – a box (or a tire or a string or a plastic bag or the list could go on and on!) can be just as fun as a fancy toy.

He loved being a one eyed monster and all the boys wanted their chance to be one as well.  WOULD YOU JUST LOOK AT THAT GORGEOUS SMILE?!?

And yes, in case you’re wondering, that is a box from Corned Beef Hash!  My sweet friend Ruby sent me a box of six cans!

DSC_0020Sweet little Ernesto left us last week to be reunited with his mother in their new home- yay!  Ernesto and his brother Moises came here to Iris a few years ago.  Moises was first in my dorm (and moved up to the next dorm two years ago) and Ernesto was in the Baby House.

We’ve loved having him the last two years, he is a pumpkin!  Adorable!  With a scrunchy face smile that just melts your heart.

Moises and Ernesto came because their father had abandoned the family, their mother had no work and their home conditions were desperately bad.

My boys are praying for Ernesto as his little farewell.

We have been able to help the mother build a new home, it has taken some time but it is now done!  She has often visited and had the boys for weekends on occasion so they have maintained their relationship.

The boys were both thrilled to go home to live with mom!  We love that!

Hey! I taught Felizardo how to ride a bike!

j0kvnbwv (2)

Well, in all honestly, I just gave a couple little pushes, Felizardo did all the rest.  I thought to try and write a funny, bragging post, like “what’s wrong with all you people who can’t teach your kids to ride a bike in three minutes” but thought people might not know I was joking!

I honestly don’t know how it happened!  Felizardo hadn’t ridden a bike before but he got on this one, asked me to push a couple times and then was off like a pro.  Clever boy!

Tramping Fun!

Brothers, Alfiado (top) and Narciso used to live in my dorm but were able to be reintegrated to live with their mom!  They still visit at least once a month, to attend church or to collect their food assistance box.  They are such lovely and sweet boys!

Paulito Turns Eight!

DSC_0674Paulito, otherwise known as Bebe, just celebrated his 8th birthday today!   I keep asking him who he is and where he put "Bebe” cuz he just keeps growing up!  Good thing he’s still so adorable!

And hey, how’s about a halfway decent photo taken by one of my Tias who are totally afraid of cameras!  A little blurry but we’re both in the photo! Smile

Botanical Garden Rm 3 089Please pray for Paulito that he will know the love his Father God has for him in a deep and personal way!  That Paulito will walk out his life in fullness of joy and with great hope for his future!

Desperate.  That’s how a father must feel to pack a plastic bag full of his two children’s clothes and bring them to a children’s center, sit them down in the Prayer Hut, tell them he’s going to buy bananas and will be right back and never return.  Desperate.

It’s the bag of clothes that turned my anger into compassion.  Most of it anyway.  I was still angry that a father would abandon his children that way.  But the clothes told me another story.  About someone who cared.  But must have been – desperate.

Thankfully, our investigative team found the father of these two gorgeous children.  I haven’t heard all the details but they are back with their father.  I am hoping we are able to help him not feel so desperate and have hope that he can provide and care for these precious little ones.
